Martyna Alexander is an artist based in Detroit. Originally a designer in corporate America she found her way to art through burn-out and a rejection of the rule-obsessed profession while inherently using her design tools to create new non-practical works. Often comparing the strange harmony of the strict and systematic to the expressive, organic, and spontaneous. Oppositions that mirror the many tensions of modern life. The interests her generation carries for both tech and traditional anti-tech activities and lifestyles are expressed both visually and as contradictions in her work. Her practice is an examination of work and labor and how to self-care and use our time to healthfully survive in society. She is an alumnus of the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and Design, 2012.
